Saison 2018

From Bach to Piazzolla

Katarzyna Myćka (Marimba)
Conrado Moya (Marimba)

The marimba resembles the xylophone, but thanks to its metal resonance tubes sounds darker and fuller. Marimbas originated in Africa and count among the oldest instruments in human history. They are rarely heard as solo instruments, let alone as a duo. The Polish musician Katarzyna Myćka and the Spanish Conrado Moya form a marimba duo – and a masterful one, at that. Their movements while playing resemble dance, and they can summon up to six notes at a time from their instruments. With a multifaceted program reaching from Bach’s Goldberg Variations up to Piazzolla’s Tango Suite, plus a few more surprises, Brühl’s marimba-premiere promises to be an unforgettable experience.

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750)
Goldberg Variations BWV 988

Maurice Ravel (1875–1937) / Safri Duo
“Alborada del Gracioso“ (Morning song of a fool) from “Miroirs“

Astor Piazzolla (1921–1992)
Tango No. 2 (Tango Suite)
