Baroque Summit

Chouchane Siranossian (Violin)
Capella Augustina
Andreas Spering

Almost 60 years ago to the day, on the 11th of May, 1958, the works of Bach and Handel sounded through the magnificent staircase in Schloss Augustusburg at the first ever Brühler Schlosskonzert. To kick off our jubilee season, we’re reviving this “summit meeting” of the two baroque masters (who were born less than a month and fewer than 200 kilometers apart in 1685, but never met) with Bach’s virtuosic violin concerto and the brilliant Concerti grossi from Handel’s time in London.

Georg Friedrich Händel (1685–1759)
Concerto grosso in G major, Op. 6, No. 1, HWV 319

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750)
Concerto in A minor, BWV 1041, for violin and orchestra

Georg Friedrich Händel
Concerto grosso in G major, Op. 3, No. 3, HWV 314

Concerto grosso in F major, Op. 3, No. 4, HWV 315

Johann Sebastian Bach
Concerto in E major, BWV 1042, for violin and orchestra

Georg Friedrich Händel
Concerto grosso in B major, Op. 6, No. 7, HWV 325
